Henning defeats Laporte for second win of the season

The Henning girls basketball team had a three game week last week and ended up going 1-2 in those games to bring their season record to 2-18 on the season.
This week the Hornets have a two game week as they will host New York Mills on Tuesday and then Verndale on Friday night in their final two conference games.
Monday, Feb. 3 vs.
Underwood 64-30 loss
On Monday night Henning hosted a very good Underwood team and their length and solid defense led the Hornets to a 44-10 halftime deficit. In the second half the Hornets were able to hold their own against mostly Underwood’s second team, which is about the age of Henning’s varsity, before ultimately losing by the final score of 64-30.
Individually the Hornets were led offensively by eighth grader Stella Illiff who finished the night with 14 points. She was followed by Abbigale Godding with five points, Brynn Reinbold with four points, Alivia Emter with three points and two points each from both Lila Thorson and Addison Bode. Brynn Reinbold led the team with five rebounds, while Emter led with three assists.

Thursday, Feb. 6 vs. Wadena-Deer Creek 68-31 loss
This was a night in which the Hornets took on a very tough Wadena-Deer Creek team that blew Henning out in the first half earlier in the season holding a 40-2 lead, but the girls came out and battled in this one and showed some very strong play despite not shooting great we trailed 29-18 at half due to some really solid defense.
Unfortunately the Hornets couldn’t get the offense going enough and they had a player get hot shooting and she finished with 33 points, while we ended up losing by the final score of 68-31.
Offensively Henning had a really balanced effort with no one really standing out. The Hornets had nine different girls score and all were between two and six points.
Stella Iliff led the team with six rebounds while Alivia Emter, Addison Bode and Bella Olson all led with two assists each and Bode also led the team with two steals.

Friday, Feb. 7 vs. Laporte 48-35 win
On Friday night Henning hosted Laporte and came out with a great first half effort on the defensive end which led to some good offense. The Hornets got into a little bit of foul trouble, but the subs came in and gave the team some great minutes leading to a nice 33-15 halftime lead.
In the second half Henning struggled to hit shots and also gave Laporte a few too many second chance looks, but battled to win the game by the final score of 48-35.
Individually the Hornets were led offensively by Alivia Emter with 13 points. Addison Bode and Stella Iliff both had eight points each, while Callie Thompson finished with six points. Bella Olson had five points while Tiffany Weber had four points, both Abbigale and Isabelle Godding finished with two points each. Bode led with five rebounds, Thompson led with three assists and also six steals.
