0Eugene “Gene” Seaver, age 86, of Henning, passed away on December 29, 2024, at Astera Health in Wadena. Memorial Services were held on Friday, January 3, 2025, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Henning with Pastor Jim Gronbeck officiating. Congregational hymns were accompanied by Carleen Markuson. Special music was provided by Gail Guse.
Eugene “Gene” Seaver was born in Flasher, N.D., to Lyston and Lorraine Seaver. Gene graduated from Bertha-Hewitt High School in 1956 and pursued higher education at Bemidji State University, where he earned a degree in biology. His passion for teaching led him to Henning Public School, where he dedicated 38 years to educating students in biology, advanced biology, and life sciences.
Gene had a unique gift for connecting with his students on a personal level, deeply caring about their lives and futures. This genuine interest and care led many of his students to become lifelong friends, a testament to the impact he had on those he taught.
On August 5, 1961, Gene married Shirley Ann Pearson at the Congregational Church in Bertha. Their union was blessed with two children, James (Traci) Seaver and Beth (James) Ingersoll. Gene was a proud grandfather to Cole (Taylor) and Carly Wiirre and a great-grandfather to Adelyn and Landon.
Gene’s greatest love was his family, especially his wife of 63 years, Shirley. He cherished his children, grandchildren, and his beloved dog, Chloe, along with all the dogs that preceded her. His passion extended to caring for his yard and feeding the birds. He possessed an extensive knowledge of birds and plants, proudly maintaining 120 violets, much to Shirley’s amusement.
Gene had a fondness for Dairy Queen and made it a mission to visit every Dairy Queen in the five-state area. His life was filled with love, laughter, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of nature and family.
Gene’s memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, love, and an unending curiosity about the natural world.
