Fire destroys home near Battle Lake on November 25

Sheriff deputies, on Nov. 17, reported items taken from two vehicle on 428th Street south of Big Pine Lake near Perham.

The thefts took place late in the evening of Nov. 16 or the early morning hours of Nov. 17. Firearms and wallets were taken from the vehicles. Deputies said the vehicles were unlocked at the time of the thefts.

Hunting blind,items stolen

A deer hunter returned to his blind on Nov. 17, on public land, and found it missing. The hunter reported to sheriff deputies that chairs and water bottles were spotted where the blind had been located, southwest of Underwood.

The blind, four years old, was valued at $150. It was identified as a standard blind with camo pattern and blaze orange patches. Other items were also taken.

Road conditions poor,leading to injuries

The first winter snowfall, with icy roads on Wednesday, Nov. 20, resulted in two accidents with minor injuries in Otter Tail County. Sheriff deputies said both accidents took place close to 8 p.m.

One accident took place at the intersection of Highway 10 and 460th Street near Perham. This was a single-vehicle rollover with an injury. The other accident, a two-vehicle crash with injuries, took place at the intersection of Highway 210 and Wilson Road near Underwood.

There were several accidents due to icy roads, without injuries on Nov. 20, east of Pelican Rapids, southwest of New York Mills, northwest of Fergus Falls, near Underwood and north of Perham.

Fire destroys home near Battle Lake

Sheriff deputies, on Nov. 25, reported that a house was destroyed by fire at Schumacher Drive on the southwest side of Battle Lake. The fire was called in to authorities at 6:22 p.m.

Residents of the home were able to evacuate with no injuries. The fire appeared to be the result of a fire in an out building that spread to the main residence. Extinguishing the blaze were members of fire departments from Battle Lake and Underwood.

Residents were later assisted by the Red Cross. As of the following day, Nov. 26, the fire was being investigated by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.
