Anniversary celebration set for September 22

At the time the Nidaros Lutheran Church congregation was organized, in 1872, most of the settlers in this community were immigrants from Norway. These Norwegian pioneers brought with them a strong Christian faith and a deep spiritual heritage. Many of those immigrants came from the area around Trondheim, Norway’s largest city. They remembered the large Nidaros Cathedral, which was Trondheim’s most renowned landmark situated along the Nid River. The settlers named their church Nidaros.

There was great joy, when news came that a Norwegian Lutheran minister would hold services at the home of Mikkal Amundson. The Nidaros congregation was organized on July 22, 1872. There were 14 charter members whose names are engraved on a granite marker erected near the entrance of the church building.

The church building was built in 1888. After a summer windstorm a basement and foundation were built under the church in 1920.  The building has seen many changes throughout the years with additions and extensive remodeling projects.

Nidaros Lutheran Church, 18844 Nidaros Church Drive, Clitherall will celebrate its 152nd anniversary on Sunday, Sept. 22, with the anniversary theme being, “This is The Day the Lord Has Made.”

A morning worship service will be held at 11 a.m. with registration beginning at 10 a.m.  A catered meal will be served following the morning service.  Come and join in our celebration.
