Henning High School student William Schwartz took 366th place at the national trap shoot in Michigan.

From July 10-14, the Henning trap team traveled to Mason, Mich., to compete in the National High School trap competition. The team, composed of William Schwartz, Dawson Bushman, Mason Umland, Caleb Watercott and Boe Mesker, participated in the highly competitive event, which drew teams from across the country.

In the team competition, Henning placed 239th out of 261 teams. Despite their best efforts, the team fell short of qualifying for the final round, feeling a mix of disappointment and determination as they knew they had the potential for higher scores.

Individual competitors Caleb Watercott, William Schwartz and Boe Mesker also took part in the event. Mesker shot a 72/100, Watercott achieved an 86/100 and Schwartz posted an impressive 96/100. Notably, Schwartz’s performance included another 25 straight hits to complement his earlier 25 straight from the team competition, securing him a spot in the championship round on Sunday.

In the championship round, Schwartz faced stiff competition and shot a 91/100, placing him 366th in the nation. His dedication and skill were evident throughout the competition, earning him and his team recognition for their efforts.

“We’re proud of all five shooters for representing our team, school, and community at the national championship,” said coach Adam Schwartz. “Their hard work and commitment were clear, and we look forward to seeing their continued progress in the upcoming season.”

The Henning trap team is now gearing up for the fall trap season, which is set to begin in mid-September. The Hornets are determined to build on their experiences and aim for even greater achievements in the future.

Congratulations to William Schwartz, Dawson Bushman, Mason Umland, Caleb Watercott and Boe Mesker for their dedication and perseverance at the National High School trap competition.
