Library receives grant from state arts fund

Our featured book of the week is “Double Exposure” by Ava Barry.
The inside jacket cover reads “Four years ago, the striking Melia van Aust survived an attack that claimed the lives of both of her parents. The crime made headlines all over the Los Angeles, both for the viscous nature of the killings and the seemingly random nature of the attack: nothing was stolen and the van Aust family had no obvious enemies. Melia fled the city soon after the murders-which were never solved, but her brother jasper has not been seen since.
After a childhood spent in the shadow of her famous parents, Rainey Hall understands the dynamics of a dysfunctional family. She still hasn’t recovered from the tragedy that tore her own family apart six years earlier. It’s part of the reason why she started her own private investigation agency-to help victims of crimes that might otherwise go unsolved.
When Melia returns to Los Angeles and moves back into her family home-the austere architectural landmark known as “Slant House”-someone begins sending her increasingly violent messages that allude to the killing of her parents. Melia hires Rainey to track down the culprit and find her missing brother.”
The State of Minnesota from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the Minnesota Historical Society has awarded the Henning Public School Library a grant in the amount of $9,325. This grant will provide over 449 books to the Henning Public School Library.
This grant helps provide a quality learning experience for our local Minnesotans by providing exemplary library bound (as much as possible) books that feature depictions of various aspects of the State of Minnesota.
Students will develop knowledge, skills, and understanding about many areas of Minnesota by reading about Minnesota, its geography, heritage, culture, people, landforms, arts, sports, and more. Books will be purchased for all ages of people who frequent the library. This grant will help represent diverse ethnicities and people as we are purchasing books that feature a wide variety of people who have contributed to Minnesota.
In addition, because Minnesota history is a vital component of our middle school curriculum, we want a strong selection of books that depict Minnesota history, industries, contemporary Minnesotans, immigration, the contributions of indigenous people, Minnesota authors/illustrators, and state bird/fish/foods, etc.
