State golf set for June 11-12 in Becker

The Otter Tail Central boys and girls golf teams competed in the Section 6A golf tournament in Perham last Wednesday and Thursday at the Perham Lakeside Golf Course.  The section tournament is a two-day tournament with a cut after the first day in which the top four teams and then the next 12 individuals not on those teams advance to day two.  

The top boys team and the top girls team after adding both day’s scores advance to the State Class A tournament and then the next five individuals in each advance as well.

Otter Tail Central junior Logan Kostelecky advanced to the State Class A tournament shooting a two-day total of 162 and placing fifth overall and third in the individual qualifiers. The State Class A tournament is scheduled for June 11-12 at Pebble Creek Golf Course in Becker, Minn. 

“Congratulations to Logan and (I am) looking forward to coaching him down in Becker and after competing down there last season with the boy’s team he’s looking forward to using that experience to go down and compete at a high level,” said head coach Mike Hepola. 

Park Christian School in Moorhead had both their boys and girls teams win the tournament and qualified for state.  

Teigan Bjerke was the next closest OTC golfer, missing out on advancing to state by five strokes total over the two days. The OTC boys team advanced to day two along with all three OTC girls.  

“Very proud of our golfers, want to thank our lone Senior Addison Maethner for her years of dedication to the program and looking forward to working with everyone else next season and watching some good competition for the Varsity spots with quite a few boys especially battling for them and hoping to get a few more girls to come out and give golf a chance next year,” said Hepola.
