Library Happenings

Chad Koenen

The new books that are arriving and purchased with money from the Minnesota Historical Society grant cover almost every area of our library. There are books for adult fiction, non fiction, junior non fiction, elementary easy read, and junior fiction. One thing they all have in common is their beautiful cover illustrations or photos.

The details on the covers of these books are tremendous, leaving the patron of the library to need to pick the book up and open it to see what is inside.  Because we want the cover to maintain its beautiful color, we no longer cover it with book plastic that breaks down over time and with use.

We began laminating book jackets seven years ago, which allows us to easily remove dirt and grime while also protecting the colors on the book jacket.

According to www.nysbca.com, over 26 million students ride the bus to school. Our featured book of the week is “Adventures to School,” real life journeys of students from around the world by Baptiste Paul and Miranda Paul, illustrated by Isabel Munoz. Thirteen different nations are recognized in this book, showing the unique way of how their students get to school each day.

Some of these treks are dangerous and extraordinary. Students see many different landscapes as they travel their paths to school.  This book also has side notations that tell the reader where the country is located, the landforms of the country, the cultures of the people, and shows a picture of that country’s flag.

We hope you can find yourself available to visit our library, which is both the public and the school library of Henning.  We are open from 3:30-5:30 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons following the school calendar.
