Parish to retire as Deer Creek city clerk

Thomas Parish will once again enter into retirement at the end of May—this time as city clerk for Deer Creek.
During its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday, April 1, Parish officially submitted his letter of retirement to the Deer Creek City Council, which will be effective on May 31.
Parish joined the city of Deer Creek in 2018 when he came out of retirement from working as a healthcare executive and administrator.
The Deer Creek City Council is currently seeking applications for the part-time city clerk position.
In other news
• Heard the monthly police report from New York Mills Police Chief Bobby Berndt who stated the department logged 30 total hours of service in Deer Creek in February. The department responded to 26 calls for service in the month with the largest logged response being business checks with five, as well as public assist, traffic warning and unlock at three each.
• Heard the well-house and water tower project bid opening will take place on Thursday, April 11 at 10 a.m. The city council discussed adding a ladder to the project as the current one needs to be replaced, as well as the need to trim or take down trees near the project site.
• Approved a MN Pump Works scheduled pump maintenance agreement. Maintenance supervisor Dan Kovar said he preferred a two year contract for the renewal.
• Heard from several residents who raised a concern about a mobile home in the trailer park that is reaching a dilapidated state. Berndt said the issue is currently being addressed.
• Heard from Kovar that the city is scheduling two notifications concerning the upcoming water service line inventory that is being required by the state of Minnesota. The city will place information about the water service line inventory in both its annual mailing, as well as a separate mailing. A new state law requires each community in the state to complete an inventory of the kind of water service lines in each community to determine how many lead pipes remain in the state.
• Discussed a letter of concern from both the Inman and Deer Creek Townships about the new city policy of not billing for fire calls, instead having the townships bill for fire calls if they desired to do so. Fire chief Travis Collins said he contacted all of the townships serviced by the Deer Creek Fire Department and reviewed their shared cost statements and indicated that he would be doing the fire call billing as he was doing in the past. After hearing the concerns from local townships, the city council said it should schedule an annual meeting to discuss past, present and future plans for the fire department.
• Approved an application for membership on the Deer Creek Fire and Rescue from William Foss who lives in Deer Creek.
• Approved a meeting with the Deer Creek Township about concerns at the cemetery. The meeting was scheduled to take place on April 8.
