Tyson and Kale Misegades placed second at the regional hoop shoot contest in Iowa City, Iowa on Saturday. The brothers competed against state champions from Wisconsin, Iowa and Illinois in the North Central Region. Tyson and Kale each made 22 of 25 shots to place second in their respective age categories. Tyson is currently an eighth grader and Kale is a fifth grader at Henning School. They are the sons of Randy and Becky Misegades of rural Henning.
Stephen Springer is living his childhood dream—one bottle of goat milk at a time. Stephen and Brittany Springer currently operate a goat dairy farm just east of Henning. Their business has grown to 370 milking goats and approximately 1,000 head.
For every student at Henning High School, National Down syndrome day means a little something more. Throughout his time at school, everyone from staff members to students has had an encounter with Hendrick Witt, a current second grader who was born with Down syndrome. His mother, Charlene Witt, helps to plan and organize special events for Down syndrome day—March 21—each year. The day has an extra special meaning this year as a preschooler at Henning School also has Down Syndrome. As part of the celebration, the Henning community along with students and staff at Henning High School are invited to wear the associated Down syndrome colors – blue and yellow.

Jacob Volkmann, senior at Henning High School, has accomplished something that no other Henning student or Otter Tail Central wrestler has ever done. He has qualified to wrestle at the National Wrestling Tournament in three weeks in Pittsburgh, Pa. Volkmann, who once again is state champion, will travel to Pittsburgh March 25-28 with his parents, Coach Anderson and a few other fans. A pancake breakfast was held this past Sunday to help with the cost of the trip. Matching funds were donated by the Otter Tail Central Wrestling Booster Club. Coach Scott Hart states that the wrestling brackets can be as large as 64 competitors per weight class. Volkmann could wrestle up to seven times at the competition to win the national championship. He will be wrestling at 148 pounds, a difference of four pounds from his 152 pound state championship weight.
A group of Henning High School graduates will return to Henning on March 26 to play the Minnesota Vikings in a game of basketball, not football. The Henning All-Stars, as they will be called, consist of 10 former Henning basketball players, ranging from graduates in 1979 to recent 1998 graduates. Also on the team will be a Henning citizen with “ancestral ties to Henning.”

One of the largest crowds ever to attend a Henning Rod and Gun Club feed jammed into the city hall Thursday evening to participate in that annual event. In fact the main part of the program was just plain eating with extra large helpings of baked ham, baked beans and baked potatoes with butter on the menu.

Everyone wore a long face last week. The joy killing report cards were received. Luxor was joyful with flags and bunting in the Egyptian national colors and crowded with sightseers and natives and distinguished visitors here for the official opening of the tomb of King Tutankhamen under government supervision. Three luxuriously fitted special trams arrived from Cairo. They brought members of the government who came to pay their respects to the shrine of one of Egypt’s first rulers. 200 notables, including Viscount and Viscountess Allenby, the Duke and Duchess of Aotsa and virtually the entire diplomatic corps came along.

Dewey reports “all quiet.” That is generally the case after his guns have had a little exercise. A Sabbath stillness prevails where the other fellows used to be.
The Vassar students who took an elective in the form of work to gladden children in New York hospitals showed that the higher education of women is not a training away from the practical. The members of the Young Women’s Christian Association of the Institution dressed 200 dolls to be given to the poor children who were sick and crippled and the joy of afflicted little ones was what children in the well-to-do families might think entirely disproportionate. An east side crippled whispered: “Do you s-pose heaven’s anywhere near as nice as this” “Cause if ’tis I’d like to go.”
Broiled sardines make an admirable Lenten dish for luncheon of supper. Drain the oil from large sardines, place them on a broiler and put them over a clear, hot fire long enough to heat the fish thoroughly, but not dry them. Delicately place the sardine on a browned toast and push heated oil on each fish. Place 1/2 teaspoon of tartar sauce and garnish with parsley.
