Richard (Dick) Stanley Haugdahl was born on August 19, 1939, in Bertha. He was the only son of Stanley and Wilma (Schrader) Haugdahl. Richard lived in rural Parkers Prairie where he attended School District #41 through the 6th grade. His family moved to rural Henning in 1951 and he graduated from Henning High School with the class of 1957. He served in the United States Army from 1958-1960. He was in the infantry for 18 months at Ladd AF Base in Fairbanks, Alaska. After his discharge, he worked at the Vining and Henning Creameries, and also started farming.
On September 16, 1961, Richard was united in marriage to Norma Jean Hagen at the Maine Presbyterian Church in rural Underwood. To this union two sons were born.
Richard loved the land. He raised cattle and farmed all his life, with Norma by his side. He enjoyed “talking farming” with his friends and driving along the country roads to check on the crops. Over the years, he served on numerous boards: forty-five years on the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church Council, the Cemetery Board, Pro Ag, and on the Prairie Pine Insurance Company board of directors in Parkers Prairie. He loved history, old-time music, blue grass music, the RFD TV Channel, cutting firewood, deer hunting with his sons, and goose hunting in Cactus Lake in Saskatchewan, Canada. He was very proud of his two sons, Gary and Alan, as well as his grandchildren, who all grew up in Henning.
On the morning of March 8, 2024 Richard passed away peacefully at Our Home Your Home in Henning, Minnesota at 84 years of age. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Proceeding Richard in death were his parents, twin sisters: Marlys in 1944 and Marlene (Nyhus) in 2001, sister-in-law Joyce May Hanson, brothers-in-law: Dwight Hanson, Virgil Martinson, and Gayle Nyhus, as well as his wife of 62 years, Norma Jean Haugdahl, who just passed away on February 4, 2024.
