Congregational Hymns were accompanied by Paul Malecha. Pallbearers were Tom VanHorn, Cody Terveer, Ethan Miller, Alex Schmidt, Declan Terveer, and Colin Berg. Military Honors were provided by Elmer Goche V.F.W. Post #3922 of Wadena. Al was laid to rest at St. Edward Catholic Cemetery, Henning.

Alois “Al” Leo Terveer was born on September 4, 1928, in Sherburn, Minn. His parents were the late Leo B. Terveer and Mabel (Faivre) Terveer.

Al graduated from Sherburn High School with the class of 1946. He served 2 terms in the Army- first he was Occupation Forces in Yokohama, Japan; second, he was a Radio Operator during the Korean War. From 1954 – 1968 he worked for Sanitary Farm Dairies, St. Paul, Minn., delivering bottled milk door to door; you might say he was the “milk man.”

He worked at Homecrest Furniture in Wadena, for 19 years before he retired.

On July 7, 1956, Alois was united in marriage with Frances “Fran” Cellette at Our Lady of the Lourdes Catholic Church. Their marriage was blessed with six children: Larry, Virginia, Jeanne, Monica, Caroline, and Al Jr.

Fran and Al made their home in St. Paul, Minn., and then moved to Thompson Grove (which is now Cottage Grove) in 1960. In 1968 they purchased the Terveer family farm in rural Aldrich, Minn., where they farmed and raised their family. Retiring from farming in 1984 they made their home on West Leaf Lake where they loved family gatherings, fishing, and sunsets. Al also enjoyed visiting the casino, playing pull tabs, dice and card games, crossword puzzles, listening to the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings.

He enjoyed going to Callaway, Minn., to play slot machines at the Callaway Liquor Store (they were like his second family). He was a people person and made friends everywhere he went. He loved his family and friends and would do anything for them. He was a flirt at times and would even flirt with the hospital nurses at times. He brought a smile to everyone he met.

On February 28, 2024, Alois “Al” passed away peacefully at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Battle Lake at the age of 95. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Al is preceded in death by his loving wife, Fran; parents Leo and Mabel Terveer; son Larry Terveer; son-in-law Dave Zeta; brothers Plate, Clete, Vite, Raymond; and sisters Zita Reetz and Barb Schanz.

Deeply loved and missed by his daughters Virginia Zeta of Wadena, Jeanne (Jerry) Schmidt of Wadena, Monica (Randy) Kallhoff of Dalton, Caroline (Jim) Montgomery of Fergus Falls; his son Al Terveer Jr. (fiancé Sara Glessing) of Deer Creek; daughter-in-law Jeri Terveer of Wadena; eleven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and numerous family and friends.
