0Michael Swanberg, age 63, passed away on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at the Good Samaritan Society in Battle Lake, after his courageous battle with cancer. Mike was a beloved father, husband, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Henning, with Pastor Keith Lankford officiating. Congregational hymns were accompanied by Carleen Markuson. Pallbearers were Luke Swanberg, Dylan Shaw, CJ Sutton, Marty Ellingson, Ryan Swanberg, Keegan Shaw, Ted Johnson, and Jamie Hiltner. Michael was laid to rest at Good Shepherd Lutheran Cemetery, Henning.
Michael Rudolph Swanberg was born on April 20, 1960, to Fred and Norma (Halvorson) Swanberg in Perham. Mike grew up in Henning where he met the love of his life, Roxanne Jensen. Mike graduated from Henning High School with the class of 1978 and continued his education at Alexandria Technical College. On July 18, 1981, Mike and Roxanne were united in marriage at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Henning. Their marriage was blessed with a son, Travis, in 1987.
His early career began in the finance sector, and he went on to spend the last 20 plus years in the rental business, specifically with General Rental in Baxter, Minn.
When not working hard, Mike enjoyed being outside whether it was for camping, lawn work, or just relaxing, he soaked in all the time he could outside. He thoroughly enjoyed anything and everything to do with automobiles and a variety of racing. It was an annual tradition to visit Road America Racetrack in Wisconsin, a place that would become Mike’s happy place. He loved taking trips to the North Shore of Minnesota, Black Hills of South Dakota or out to the races any chance he could. The weekend car auctions on TV were a major draw of attention as well. Mike had a passion for helping others and being surrounded by friends and family. He was always more concerned about everyone else rather than his own happenings. He wanted to give and help more than anything.
Mike was diagnosed with stage four cancer in fall of 2021 and would endure a two-year battle in which he faced with fortitude and grace. Mike was a character of strength and hope during this battle. “Measure of a life is a measure of love and respect,” in which he broke the measuring tape shown to all during his fight.
Preceding Mike in death were his parents, Fred and Norma Swanberg, his wife, Roxanne Swanberg, infant sister, Dawn Renee, and niece, Ashley Swanberg; Marlyn Jensen.
Mike is survived by his son Travis (Kirsten) Swanberg; sister, Laurie (Barry) Shaw; brothers, Greg (Beth) Swanberg and Steve (Rachel) Swanberg; mother-in-law, Eloise (Marlyn) Jensen, sister-in-law Carrie (Tim) Nyberg, brother-in-law Craig Jensen; nieces and nephews, Joslyn (CJ) Sutton, Megan (Ted) Johnson, Luke (Lauren) Swanberg, Ryan Swanberg, Mandy (Marty) Ellenson, Jess (Jamie) Hiltner, Dylan (Megan) Shaw, and Keegan Shaw; Angela (Shawn), Amber Gregg; as well as many great nieces and nephews.
