0Hornets fall to Eagles in sub section opener
The third seeded Henning Hornets season came to an end with a disappointing loss to the New York Mills Eagles on Thursday night. The Hornets ended their season with a 15-11 overall record.
Henning played the Eagles in its last game of the season and the results of that game were in favor of the Hornets, but the Eagles came to town with the will to win.
“I give them a lot of credit. They passed well and controlled the game offensively,” said head coach Kristy Finck. “The Hornets did not play badly on the night; we just played like we were trying not to lose, instead of playing aggressively and being in charge of the game.”
The Eagles went on to play Underwood on Friday night, and lost in a close 3-2 match.
Lyvia Misegades led the Hornets with 14 kills, 16 set assists, 2 ace serves, 14 digs and 2 blocks. She also set a milestone in set one as she obtained her 2,000 career set assists. She is the third Hornet volleyball player to reach this milestone.
“I give her a lot of credit for her hard work and dedication to the sport. As a freshman we only had 11 games due to Covid and having a shortened season,” said Finck. “As a sophomore she set a 5-1, so she had her most assists that year. Last year as a junior we ran 5-1 and sometimes a 6-2 and this season we only ran a 6-2 as we needed her to attack. So reaching the milestone was not an easy thing. Congratulations Lyvi!”
Myiesha Antoni had 6 kills and 2 blocks, Ella Missling and Alivia Gunderson each had 4 kills.
Missling had 13 digs and Gunderson added 11. Emmalyn Bergstrom and Bella Olson each had 2 kills. Lillian Moench led the team with 14 digs and serve received 25/29 balls to the target. Cambrie Johnson had 11 set assists and 6 digs.
“I would like to say thank you to our Hornet fans for all of your support throughout the season. It never goes unnoticed and we really appreciate it very much,” said Finck. “To our seniors, Lyvia Misegades, Alissa Winters, Ella Missling and Alivia Gunderson, thank you for all of your hard work throughout your careers as Henning Hornets. You are going to be missed very much. To the rest of the Lady Hornets, thanks for your hard work, and remember to work hard in the off season.”
