The Henning School Board officially approved the hiring of Melissa Sparks as the school district’s new superintendent.

During its regularly scheduled meeting on Monday night, the school board approved a 3-year contract with Sparks. Sparks currently serves as the high school principal at the MACCRAY School District. Her contract calls for a base salary of $112,000 in the first year of her contract.

Sparks was selected out of a field of 14 applicants and tabbed to officially take over at Henning School when interim superintendent Barry Olson retires from the district at the end of June.

In addition to the official hiring of Sparks, the school board received an update about a potential prom and what graduation could look like this year.
