The Henning City Council approved a 20 percent increase in its 2024 preliminary tax levy last week.

During a special city council meeting on Thursday night, which lasted just eight minutes, the Henning City Council approved its 2024 preliminary tax levy. The approval was needed by the end of September and could increase the city’s tax levy by almost $50,000 if it is finalized by the end of the year.

The preliminary tax levy, which can be lowered but not increased when it is finalized, will increase the city’s tax levy to $296,478 in 2024. That is up from the 2023 tax levy of $247,065.

Last year the City of Henning increased its tax levy by 12.3 percent over its 2022 amount.
