The Henning Hornets had a busy week last week as they were on the road for all of their games.

On Tuesday, the Hornets traveled to Wheaton, on Thursday they headed to Menahga and on Saturday they participated in the Parkers Prairie Tournament.

The Hornets lost 0-3 to Wheaton, had a comeback win over Menahga winning 3-2 and in the Parkers Prairie Tournament they went 2-2 on the day. In pool play in Parkers Prairie the Hornets first opponent was Browerville Eagle-Valley, who were 11-0 on the season. The Hornets played some of the best volleyball they had played this season. They gave the Tigers a lot of trouble and came up short in the third set.

In the second game the Hornets played Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley in their next match and won 2-1. The Henning serve receive was not as good as it was in their first match, but they were able to play good enough to pull off the win. In the third game of pool play, the Hornets face a big Northern Freeze team. The solid blocking from the Freeze caused a lot of trouble for the Hornet and they fell 0-2. This put the Hornets in third place in their pool. The top two teams in each pool went on to play in the gold playoff bracket and the third place teams played each other and the fourth place teams played.

The Hornets then faced Park Christian, who is one of the leading teams in Section 6A. The Hornets played really well as a team and competed much stronger throughout the whole match, which helped them win 2-0.

“Even though we went 3-3 on the week, I really saw some improvement on the team. I feel we are starting to gel more as a team, our passing is improving, and our severing is strong and we are getting aces in each set,” said head coach Kristy Finck. “We still need to improve on our attacking and blocking, we are lacking in the kill category. Our hitting percentage is far from where it needs to be, with it being low, causes us to be on defense the whole game and this is not good for our team. Our blocking also needs to get better. I really feel if our hitting and blocking get stronger we can make a run when playoffs come.”

Lyvia Misegades is leading the in the attacking, blocking and does a great job distributing the ball to the hitters when she is setting in the back row. In the games last week she had 101 kills, 15 blocks and 61 set assists.

Lillian Moench and Ella Missling are leading the team in serving and digs. Moench had 112 digs and 13 ace serves. Missling had 91 digs and 9 ace serves.

Cambrie Johnson has been doing a solid job at setting as she leads the team with 80 set assists and has 8 ace serves.

Also contributing to the team last week were Alivia Gunderson, Lila Thorson, Emmalyn Bergstrom, Myeisha Antoni, Alivia Emter, Brynn Reinbold, Alissa Winters Isabelle Godding and Bella Olson. The Hornets are still trying to find the right combination that play the best together, once they find that, the Hornets will be an team hard to beat.

The Hornets will host Barnesville on Tuesday and travel to Wadena-Deer Creek on Thursday.
