While a new convenience store and gas station continues to dominate the discussion around the coffee shop, a staple in the downtown Henning area also recently changed hands.
The NAPA Auto Parts store, located in the heart of downtown Henning, was recently purchased by Todd Quick. The new owner purchased the store just a few weeks ago after operating Quick’s Auto Parts in Parkers Prairie for the past 20 years.
The idea of purchasing the store in Henning, to go along with his NAPA store in Parkers Prairie, recently picked up steam when Quick’s sons began constructing a new mechanic and body shop near the post office in Vining.
“Wayne (Schwartz) and I have talked numerous times over the past few years (about selling the business). My sons are building a shop in Vining as well, and I wanted them to have closer access to a good inventory of parts,” said Quick. “So if that was going to happen I needed to be in control of what inventory was there.”
Quick said purchasing the store not only will work out for himself and his family, but also Schwartz who found a local buyer to take over the parts store in downtown Henning.
“It just seemed to be timed out right where Ken was partially retired and Wayne wanted out so it just kind of fell together,” said Quick.
In addition to Henning, Quick has owned the NAPA store in Parkers Prairie for approximately 20 years. He has ties to the region that go back well over 120 years.
“My family had ties to the Henning community since the late 1800s so it is more just coming back to the area,” he said.
Though he took over the store just a few weeks ago, Quick said he has heard some positive comments from the community about his new business venture. He is planning to give the store a deep clean and fresh coat of paint, while also erecting a lighted NAPA sign to go on the outside of the building.
“They think it is going to be a good thing and I hope it is,” he said.
The new store manager will be a familiar face in the community as Tony Suchy will run the day-to-day operations.
The NAPA store in downtown Henning will be open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Saturday. The store is located at 407 Douglas Ave. For more information, contact 583-2039.
