Janis Josephine Silverberg passed away July 13 at St. Williams Living Center in Parkers Prairie where she had lived since July 2017. She was born at home in Henning on Feb. 21, 1937 to Victor and Nancy (Peterson) Silverberg.

Janis was confirmed at Henning’s Grace Lutheran Church in 1952 by Pastor Jay Millard Ahlstrom and graduated in 1955 from Henning Public Schools.

She graduated in 1959 from St. Cloud State College with a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice. Janis was employed as a corrections agent for the State of Minnesota and Hennepin County for more than 30 years before she retired in 1995.

Janis resided in the Twin Cities after college, with summers spent at Leaf Lake, Henning. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan.

A private family burial will be held at Grace Lutheran Cemetery outside of Henning. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to the Hospice of Douglas County in Alexandria, Minn., or St. Williams Living Center in Parkers Prairie.

Survivors include niece Laurie Wichelmann Anderson (Jim Varner); nephew Tom Wichelmann (Cindy); cousins Pat Dilly Peterson, Jim Dilly, John Peterson, Gladys Peterson VanQuekelberg, Larry Belmont, Steve Belmont, Tom Belmont, Rick Belmont, Debbie Belmont Hoffelt; great nieces and nephews Tara Anderson Fitzgerald, Brett Anderson, Adam Wichelmann, Chase Wichelmann; and great, great nieces and nephews.
