Time to celebrate at 85th annual Henning Festival

A celebration dating back nearly 100 years will continue this weekend in Henning.
The 85th annual Henning Festival will take place from July 6-9 in Henning. The event will kick off on Thursday night when the Trinity Center opens, before a historic walking tour will be led by Chris Schuelke of the Otter Tail County Historical Society. The historic walking tour will begin at the Trinity Center, which is celebrating its 125th anniversary.
A craft fair will be held at the Henning Festival Grounds on Friday beginning at 12 p.m., before the kiddie parade and big parade rolls through the streets of downtown Henning at 6 p.m. The kiddie parade will line up at 5:45 p.m. at the city park, while the big parade will line up near the former nursing home.
Following the parade, Miss Henning Aaliyah Olson, as well we princesses Lily Fraki and Ally Hart; Little Miss Henning Piper Greenwaldt and Little Miss Princesses Koli Torgerson and Korie Koenen will crown the 2023-24 royalty at the festival grounds. Due to a lack of participants there will not be a Miss Henning pageant, but the Little Miss Henning pageant will feature seven candidates (more information on the candidates can be found on page 2).
Saturday will feature events from sun up until well after the sun goes down.
The day will begin with the Henning Festival walk/run and softball tournament at 8 a.m., while the craft fair will open at 9 a.m.
Water wars will provide a way to beat the summer heat when they get underway near Amundson Park beginning at 11 a.m. The water wars is open to teams of children through adults and no preregistration is necessary.
Inflatable rides will begin at 12 p.m., while the kids and adult bean bag tournaments will get underway at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. respectively.
The highlight of Saturday will be the demolition derby, which will get underway at 6 p.m., before a street dance at the Event Center and fireworks will be held following the demo derby.
On Sunday classic cars will be revving their engines and filling Amundson Park for the annual Tri-County Cruisers car show. The car show will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
