Henning’s expenses will exceed revenues once again next year, at least according to the school district’s 2023-24 budget.

During its regularly scheduled meeting last week, the Henning School Board approved its budget for the upcoming school year, which shows revenues of $5,205,213 in the general fund and expenses of $5,271,581. The deficit, which was based on an enrollment of 335 students, shows a deficit of $66,368 in the general fund. The food service fund shows a slight profit of $3,905 and the community education fund shows revenues exceeding expenses by $536.

Henning School Superintendent Melissa Sparks said the budget, which is based on approximately 10 fewer students than the projected enrollment, is a starting point for the school district and has been working with the Freshwater Education District for developing the budget.

“This is a good starting point to show where we are at and we will revise it again in September,” she said.
