Highway 108 in downtown Henning has seen its better days. The road is scheduled to be replaced in 2024, but in order to make it to even next year, representatives from MnDOT completed emergency work on a pair of man hole covers last week.
Henning Mayor Robert Johnson said an Otter Tail County Sheriff reported that a man hole cover was beginning to collapse on Tuesday. When city staff came on the scene they realized that the surface under the man hole cover was collapsing, including the brick under the road.
In order to prevent further deteriorating and damage to the storm sewer system, representatives from MnDOT and city staff patched man hole covers at the intersections of Milne and Marshall Ave. on Highway 108. Johnson said the patches are only temporary and asked that the general public let the city staff know if the patch appears to be failing in the future so additional repairs can be made before next summers road project.
“The state is patching them to last for a year,” he said. “Some parts of the road will be rough, but if the public sees something let us know.”
