Hornets improve to 25-1 with 75-36 win over Ashby

0Fourth ranked Hornets receive top seed in sub section tournament
Henning received the top seed in the sub section and will take on either eighth seeded Underwood or ninth seeded Rothsay in their sub section opener on Thursday night in Henning. The game will start at 7 p.m. and the winner will advance to Saturday’s sub section semi-final game in Perham. The winner of Thursday’s game will take on either fourth seeded Hillcrest or fifth seeded Park Christian. Saturday’s game will begin at 1 p.m.
On the other side of the sub section, Battle Lake received the second seed and will take on either seventh seeded Breckenridge or 10th seeded New York Mills on Thursday night, while sixth seeded Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal will take on third seeded Lake Park-Audubon. The winner of the two games will play on Saturday in Perham at 2:45 p.m.
The sub section finals will be held on Wednesday, March 15 at 7 p.m. and the Section 6A finals will be held on Friday, March 17 in Fergus Falls.
The Hornets enter the playoffs with a 14 game winning streak and a 25-1 record overall. They are currently ranked fourth in the state.
Tuesday
Henning took a slim 25-22 lead at halftime and hung on for their 13th straight win as they defeated Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal by a score of 58-49.
“Tonight was a physical battle. NCE/UH plays a really tough schedule and is much better than their record,” said head coach Randy Misegades. “We had to battle through some adversity tonight and found a way to get the job done in a game where we shot the ball poorly. These types of games should help us get ready for March.”
As a team the Hornets shot just 37 percent from the field and made just 4-19 from behind the 3-point line. Nonetheless, Henning made up for a tough night shooting from the field at the free throw line as they went 16-21 from the charity stripe. Mason Hammer went 8-9 from the free throw line to finish with 12 points and 8 rebounds.
Kale Misegades finished with a team-high 17 points on just 7-12 shooting. He added 7 rebounds and 4 steals in the win. Tyson Misegades also reached double figures with 16 points, while Eli Reinbold scored 7 point and Lane Dilly finished with 7 rebounds and 5 steals.

Henning put an exclamation point on the end of their regular season with a commanding 75-36 win over Ashby on Friday night. The Hornets took a 37-12 lead at halftime and once again made the most of their trips to the free throw line as they went 15-20 from the charity stripe.
The game was the final regular season home game for seniors Tyson Misegades, Riley Bode, Mason Hammer and Carter Dilly.
“Tonight we honored our seniors in their final regular season home game. Henning basketball owes a lot to Riley Bode, Carter Dilly, Mason Hammer and Tyson Misegades. Those four young men have been a huge part of successful teams over their time in Henning,” said head coach Randy Misegades.
As a team the Hornets shot 43 percent from the field and were led by Mason Hammer who had a monster game of 30 points on just 12-18 shooting and 6 rebounds. He went 4-7 from behind the 3-point line. Kale Misegades also reached double figures with 15 points, while Tyson Misegades and Lane Dilly each finished with 8 points apiece. Dilly had a big game rebounding as the junior finished with a team-high 13 rebounds.
The win wraps up Henning’s regular season with a record of 25-1 as the fourth ranked team in the state gets ready for the playoffs.
“We’re excited to prepare for postseason play and looking forward to competing in a very deep Section 6A,” said Misegades.
