Fifth ranked Hornets improve to 15-1 on season

Carter Dilly lines up a 3-point shot during a recent game in Henning. The Hornets are 15-1 on the season and 9-0 in the conference.

The fifth ranked Henning Hornets improved to 15-1 overall and 9-0 in the Park Region Conference with a pair of wins last week.

The Hornets defeated Menahga by a score of 75-40 on Tuesday night, before defeating Pillager by a score of 83-46 on Friday night.

This week the Hornets will travel to Long Prairie-Grey Eagle on Monday night for a non-conference game, before heading to Sebeka on Saturday for a boys-girls double header against the Trojans.

Mason Hammer scored 21 points in Friday’s 83-46 win over Pillager.

The Hornets will get back to some home cooking next week as they have home games in six of the final eight games of the season. That extended home stretch includes a home game against Wadena-Deer Creek on Feb. 7 and a home game against New York Mills on Feb. 10.

Four Hornets reached double figures as Henning cruised to a 75-40 win over Menahga on Tuesday night.

Tyson Misegades led the way by hitting five 3-pointers on his way to 25 points, while his brother Kale Misegades scored 20 points and hit a pair of 3-pointers of his own. Kale also finished with 6 assists, 6 rebounds and 6 steals in the win.

Also reaching double figures was Lane Dilly who scored 11 points to go along with his 8 rebounds and Mason Hammer who scored 10 points, as well as 4 blocks and 9 rebounds.

“Solid win on the road to start our second time through conference teams,” said head coach Randy Misegades. “Things were a bit sloppy, but we battled through and got the job done.”

As a team the Hornets, who led 34-16 at halftime, had 18 assists on just 26 made shots from the field.

In addition to the win for the varsity team, the Henning C-squad and JV teams also continue to play well.

“It was nice to see our JV and C-squad both continue to play well also. Our JV team made 13 three’s tonight led by Noah Umland and Logan Kostelecky,” said Misegades.
