Henning students selected as AAA, ExCEL award winners

Four Henning students were recently honored for their work on both the court, as well as in the classroom.

Seniors Ally Hart and Tyson Misegades were selected as Henning’s AAA (arts, academics, athletics) award winners and juniors Lyvia Misegades and Carter Kenyon were selected as Henning’s ExCEL (Excellence in Community, Education and Leadership) award winners.

Hart, who is the daughter of Scott and Deb Hart, participates in choir, National Honor Society, student council, track, volleyball and basketball. 

Tyson Misegades is the son of Randy and Becky Misegades and participates in basketball, baseball, National Honor Society and choir.

Lyvia Misegades was selected for the ExCEL award and is the daughter of Steve and Jodi Misegades. She participates in choir, National Honor Society, basketball, volleyball and student council.

Kenyon was also selected for the ExCEL award and is the son of Nathan and Andrea Kenyon. He is participates in choir, basketball, football and trap. 

Sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League, the AAA award honors high school seniors who have excelled in the classroom, on the athletic field, and in fine arts. Students who are nominated must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 or better, participate in MSHSL sponsored fine arts and athletic activities, and comply with the MSHSL’s Student Code of Conduct.

The AAA award recipients are selected through a multi-level process that involves MSHSL member schools, the league’s administrative regions, and a special committee of educators, business leaders, and members from the fine arts and athletic communities. 

The top two AAA award candidates from each region will be recognized later this year. League officials will announce two state AAA award recipients—one girl and one boy from both Class A and Class AA schools—and will honor all 32 finalists during an on-court ceremony during the Class AA championship game of the boys basketball state tournament in March. Each state award recipient will receive a four-year $1,000 scholarship.

The ExCEL award recognizes Minnesota high school juniors who are active in school activities, leaders in their schools and who demonstrates a strong commitment to community service. Every student who is nominated must participate in a MSHSL fin arts and/or athletic activity, hold a leadership position in the school, volunteer in the community and be making satisfactory progress toward graduation.

Students who are nominated for the award are chosen by a multi-level selection process with other nominees from across the state. Each statewide finalist will be recognized during the broadcast of the 2023 winter tournaments and will also participate in an on-court award ceremony during the Class AA championship game of the girls basketball state tournament in March.
