A new tanker truck will soon be on the way for the Deer Creek Fire Department.
During its regularly scheduled meeting last Monday night, the Deer Creek City Council finalized the purchase of a new tanker truck to add to the local fire department’s fleet.
The cost for the tanker was $69,000, but did not include transportation or graphics for the truck. The quote for the 2000 freight liner 2,000 gallon tanker truck was well below the $100,000 amount already approved by the city council.
Deer Creek City Councilman Jamie George, who is also a member of the fire department, said the new tanker truck is pretty similar to the current tanker truck being utilized by the fire department. The main difference is that the new one is smaller than the previous tanker truck, but George added that smaller doesn’t necessarily mean a bad thing as the new tanker truck will be able to get in different spots than larger tanker trucks.
The tanker is currently located in Ontario, Canada and will cost approximately $4,000 to get it shipped to Deer Creek.
In other news
• Approved utilizing COVID-19 funds for a grant application and administration of a grant for a water tower and well house project. Based on the current estimates the program could fund construction totaling $361,500, which includes $103,000 for the well house and $258,500 for the water tower. If the city were to receive the small cities grant about half of the project could be paid for through the grant.
• Accepted a donation of $600 from the Deer Creek Lions Club for mowing the area around the pickle ball court in Deer Creek.
