Two deaths reported in Battle Lake

The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office has released the names of two people who died on Monday afternoon in a suspected murder-suicide in rural Battle Lake.
According to a press release from the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office, the deceased are Steven Kern, age 59, and Susan Kinnunen, age 58.
The Otter County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a suspicious death on Monday, Nov. 21 at 2:30 p.m. in Battle Lake. They found Kern and Kinnunen dead at a residence, according to the sheriff’s office press release.
According to the press release, the sheriff’s office believed the incident to be a murder-suicide. It also believed the incident to be isolated and they stated there was no known threat to the public.
The investigation is ongoing. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Midwest Medical Examiners Office are assisting the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office with the investigation.
