Due to MEA the Henning Hornets only had one game last week.
The Hornets hosted Park Region Conference rival Wadena-Deer Creek on Tuesday, Oct. 13. Both the Hornets and Wolverines came into the game with a perfect 5-0 record in the conference.
The Hornets started the game out a little slow and it took a little time to adjust to WDC’s aggressive serves, big blocks, and five different weapons in the front row. The Wolverines won the first set 25-18.
In the second set the Hornets came out strong, and were able to attack more, which led to WDC not being able to attack as much. The Wolverines slowly battled back, but the Hornets ended up holding on and beat the Wolverines 29-27.
The third set the Wolverines came out stronger than the first two sets, they had a little fire in them, as they haven’t had a set taken from them the last four seasons in Park Region Conference action. They served more aggressively, which caused the Hornets to not pass as well on serve receive, which led to more free balls or down balls over to the Wolverines, this lead to more aggressive attacks from them, so we were on the defensive end of the game. The Wolverines won the third set 25-17.
The fourth set was very similar to the third set, and ended with the Wolverines winning 25-17. The Wolverines won 3-1, but the Hornets played a decent game, battled from the start to the end.
Head coach Kristy Finck said she felt if the Hornets could have served a little more aggressively and kept themselves more on the offensive side of the match, they could have pulled off another set.
Leading the Hornets in kills was Addison Bode with 19. Alivia Emter led in assists with 31, and Hailey Fiskum led the team in digs with 23. Lily Grieger led the team in solo blocks with 3.
Also getting kills in the match were Bella Olson with 7, Brynn Reinbold with 5, Haley Hanson with 4 and Lily Grieger added 3.
This week is the Hornets last week of the regular season. The Hornets travel to Sebeka in their last conference match up on Tuesday, Oct. 21. On Thursday, Oct. 23 the Hornets will play their last regular season game in Henning against the Underwood Rockets. C-Squad starts at 4:45 pm, with JV and Varsity to follow.
