Joseph Henry Olson, Jr., age 46 of Henning, has been sentenced to 364 days in the Otter Tail County Jail on one count of possessing ammo/any firearm subject to an Order for Protection. The charge stems from a May 2025 arrest in which Olson, was found to have a firearm despite being a person who is subject to an order for protection.

A pair of domestic assault charges were dismissed, while a charge of fifth degree possession for schedule 1, 2, 3, 4 or paraphernalia residual – not cannabis/hemp will be stayed as part of the conviction. If Olson successfully completes probation, the drug possession charge will be dismissed. Olson will receive credit for 251 days served and will be placed on supervised probation for five years for the drug charge and two years for the possession of ammo/firearms charge.

According to the statement of probable cause, at approximately 12:46 a.m. on May 20, 2025, Otter Tail County dispatch received a hang up call from 704 Marshall Ave. in Henning where no one spoke, but raised voices could be heard in the background. When deputies arrived, they found the victim sitting in a vehicle in the driveway with a significant amount of blood on her chest. The victim stated that herself and Olson were arguing earlier in the night and when she attempted to leave he would not let her and reportedly screwed the front door shut to prevent her from doing so. Olson then reportedly pretended to hit her with the bottom of a clay pot and proceeded to throw it at her, hitting her on the head, causing a cut on her head that was bleeding.

When deputies arrived, they tried to reach Olson by phone, but he refused to come out stating that he was in Frazee and not home. Eventually Olson exited the home where he was arrested.
