0The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is considering several experimental and special fishing regulations for the 2027 fishing season, including sunfish limits for four lakes in Otter Tail County.
The proposed regulations are a 20-sunfish limit with five fish over the 8-inch regulation on Rush Lake, German Lake, and North and South Ten Mile Lake.
The proposed goal on each lake is to protect larger sunfish while allowing harvest of smaller sunfish.
Each year, the DNR proposes experimental and special fishing regulations. Experimental regulations have a defined evaluation period, after which the DNR decides whether the regulations should become permanent.
Special regulations do not have an end date although DNR reviews their performance as part of an individual lake’s management planning cycle.

An in-person meeting on all four OTC lakes will be held Wednesday, Sept. 2, from 6-7:30 p.m., at the Fergus Falls DNR Office, 1509 First Ave. N.
An online meeting will be held Tuesday, Sept. 15, from 6-7 p.m. to accept public comment on all proposals for the 2027 season. This meeting is open to anyone who would like to participate.
