Two Henning seniors recently participated in the MMEA (Minnesota Music Educators Association) All-State choir. The choir is  considered the top program of its kind across the nation as it develops high school musicians and school music programs.

Elliot Severson, who is the son of Amy and Eric Severson of Henning, as well as Beck Thorson, who is the son of Brooke and Matt Thorson of rural Deer Creek, were two of the 634 musicians state wide who were selected for the seven all-state ensembles.

The Henning School students attended all-state camp, which began on Tuesday, July 28 where they met their guest conductor and section coaches for the first time. Placement auditions for seating were followed by long hours of rehearsals and sectionals. Although the major focus during the summer camp was making music, a full schedule of recreation and social activities gave students opportunities to develop new friendships. The August concerts are the result of dedication by some of the most talented young musicians in Minnesota.

All members of the all-state choir will also meet to perform as part of the MMEA Midwinter Convention in February 2027.

All-State Camp cost was $970 and largely sponsored by the following businesses: BPOE, Fraternal Order of Eagles, Markuson-Baer Insurance, Henning Lions, My Kind of Bank, Ottertail Power, Parker’s Prairie Sportsmens, Trussworthy Components and TNT Repair.
