Seed spitting good time at 54th annual Watermelon Day

Free watermelon will once again be one of the highlights of the 54th annual Watermelon Day celebration in Vining on Saturday. Free watermelon will be served beginning at 11 a.m. and will be served until supplies last.

The small town of Vining will transform into a watermelon eating, seed spitting paradise on Saturday for the 54th annual Watermelon Day celebration.
The day will kick off on Saturday morning with the annual Run For the Melon 5k/10k run/walk, as well as the Vining Lutheran Church Breakfast at 8 a.m.
The streets of Vining will come alive beginning at 9 a.m. as the craft and retail vendors will take over the small community with shops set up for nearly the entire length of town. The car show will be held at Bigfoot Gas, Grocery and Deli from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Vining History Center will also be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Bingo will get underway at 12 p.m. and kids games will be held at 1:30 p.m. near the Vining History Center.
The parade will get underway a bit earlier than in years past, at 5 p.m., while live music with Jason Wilkerson will be held from 6-8 p.m. and Braedon Wallace will take the stage from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. to close out the day.
In addition to all the activities in the downtown area, the fourth annual Jacob Quam 3v3 basketball tournament will be held throughout the day at the Vining Community Center basketball courts. Teams from across the region will compete for the opportunity to take home the top prize, while also raising money for the Jacob Quam Foundation.
One of the highlights of any Watermelon Day celebration is the free watermelon that is delivered by the pallet to Vining. Free watermelon will be given away beginning at 11 a.m. and will go as long as supplies last.
