Above: Gabe Lindstrom was one of 25 Bulldogs to qualify for the section track meet when he placed fifth in the 100-meter dash last week.

The Otter Tail Central Bulldogs are sending 25 athletes on to the section meet after an impressive performance at Thursday’s subsection meet in Frazee. The top six finishers in each event automatically qualified, while additional wild cards were awarded afterward based on marks and times across the subsection meets.

Junior Billy Durbin highlighted the day for the Bulldog men by winning the subsection championship in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 47-11. Durbin later added another section berth in discus, placing sixth with another personal-best mark of 117-1.

The Bulldog boys team battled throughout the meet and finished just half a point out of second place, scoring 104 points to take third overall behind Frazee and Minnewaska Area.

Peter Newark earned a runner-up finish in the 3200 meters with a time of 10:34.89. Freshman Drew Robinson joined him in qualifying after placing fifth in a personal-best 10:44.42.

Seventh grader Jude Hagemeister continued his breakout season by qualifying in the 1600 meters with a third-place finish and personal-best 5:03.02.

Otter Tail Central also qualified all three relay teams. The 4×100 relay team of Jack Robinson, Matthew Brandborg, Brock Resch, and Mason Hoyt placed third in 47.08. The 4×200 relay squad of Jack Robinson, Talyn Setterholm, Mason Hoyt, and Gabe Lindstrom also took third in 1:36.70, while the 4×400 relay team of Brock Resch, Talyn Setterholm, Gabe Lindstrom, and Marcus Roisum advanced with a fourth-place finish in 3:43.05.

Setterholm added an individual qualification in the 400 meters with a personal-best 53.65. Roisum qualified in both hurdle events, taking sixth in the 110 hurdles and fourth in the 300 hurdles.

In the field events, William Schwartz qualified in both throws, placing third in shot put with a personal-best 45-10 and fifth in discus at 135-0. Brock Resch, Braxtyn Cameron, and Jack Robinson all advanced in the high jump, while Gabe Lindstrom cleared 12-7 to place third in pole vault.

Matthew Brandborg qualified in triple jump with a personal-best leap of 39-10, and freshman Houston Schwartz later earned a wild card spot with a personal-best jump of 38-7.5.

For the girls, Kinley Bormann delivered one of the top performances of the entire meet. The junior won both the long jump and triple jump, including a school-record leap of 18-5.75 in the long jump. Bormann also captured the triple jump title with a season-best mark of 36-6.

Senior Myiesha Antoni added another subsection championship for the Bulldogs, winning the high jump at 5-4.

The Bulldogs’ 4×100 relay team of Annabelle Evavold, Belle Bormann, Clara Mark, and Kinley Bormann raced to a subsection title in 52.08, while the same quartet added a third-place finish in the 4×200 relay to qualify for sections.

Evavold also advanced individually in the 100 meters with a fourth-place finish. Brielle Malone qualified in both distance races after taking eighth in the 800 and fifth in the 1600 with a personal-best 5:52.04.

Eighth grader Lillian Grieger qualified in both the 100 hurdles and triple jump, while freshman Quinn Hagemeister and junior Avaya Condiff earned section berths in pole vault.

With 25 athletes now advancing, the Bulldogs will look to carry their momentum into next week’s Section meet at Concordia.
