When Cody Truax joined the Deer Creek Fire Department last year, it continued a long family history that dates back to the 1960s. Cody became the third generation of the Truax family to join the Deer Creek Fire Department, after his grandpa Oliver and father Vince both served on the volunteer squad. Oliver joined the fire department in the 1965. Vince said he remembers his dad heading right from their downtown Deer Creek store to the fire hall down the road as soon as a call came in.

Plans are taking shape for a pair of Henning High School milestones. While this year’s events may take on a bit of a different look, they will resemble a more traditional prom and graduation that has been accustomed in Henning. Prom is set for May 8 and will be held at the Henning Festival Grounds and Henning Event Center. Graduation is set for Saturday, May 29 at 2 p.m. and the school district is planning to have the ceremony at the school. How many people will be invited for each student has yet to be finalized, but the plan is to follow COVID-19 protocols from the MDH.
