The Otter Tail Central Bulldogs picked up a pair of wins to improve to 5-4 last week.

The Otter Tail Central Bulldogs came up just short Tuesday evening, falling 2–1 to the Pillager Huskies in game one of a doubleheader at Pillager High School. The game featured strong pitching on both sides, but the Bulldogs were unable to generate enough offense to complete the comeback.

Otter Tail Central struck first in the opening inning when Kale Misegades drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home the Bulldogs’ only run of the game. However, Pillager quickly responded with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning to even the score.

The Huskies later added what proved to be the game-winning run, and the Bulldogs were unable to push another run across despite a tightly contested game throughout.

Despite the loss, Misegades delivered an outstanding performance on the mound. The right-hander struck out 11 batters over six innings while allowing just two hits and two runs. He also issued three walks in the strong outing.

Misegades kept the Bulldogs in the game all night, consistently working out of tough situations and limiting Pillager’s opportunities.

Pillager’s Brandt matched Misegades pitch-for-pitch, earning the win after throwing a complete game. Brandt allowed just two hits and one run (zero earned) across seven innings while striking out 12 batters and walking two.

Both teams struggled to generate offense in what turned into a classic pitchers’ duel.

Otter Tail Central managed two hits in the contest, singles from Quenten Beske and Ryan Despard.

For Pillager, Imdieke and Grimsley each collected a hit, with Imdieke driving in one run for the Huskies.

Head Coach Ryan Hendrickson praised the effort despite the tough loss.

“That was a well-played baseball game on both sides,” Hendrickson said. “Kale threw outstanding tonight and gave us every opportunity to win. Unfortunately, we just couldn’t get enough going offensively. Credit to their pitcher — he kept us off balance all game.”

Hendrickson added that the team will look to bounce back quickly in the second game.

“When you play in tight games like this, it often comes down to one or two plays. We’ll regroup and be ready for game two.”

The Otter Tail Central Bulldogs bounced back in impressive fashion Tuesday evening, defeating the Pillager Huskies 12–6 in game two of a doubleheader at Pillager High School. After dropping a tight 2–1 pitchers’ duel in game one, the Bulldogs responded with a complete team performance to earn the split.

With the win, Otter Tail Central moves to 4–3 on the season.

Otter Tail Central wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the first inning. Kale Misegades delivered an RBI single to plate the first run, and a Pillager error brought home two more as the Bulldogs jumped out to a 3–0 lead.

Pillager battled back and tied the game in the fourth inning when Hoglin launched a home run to left field, evening the score at 3–3.

The Bulldogs responded immediately in the bottom of the fourth inning, breaking the game open with six runs on six hits to take control, 9–3.

The biggest hit of the inning came from Kaden Schmieg, who delivered a two-run single to spark the offensive surge. Otter Tail Central consistently applied pressure throughout the inning, stringing together quality at-bats and timely hitting.

Casen Leroy earned the win for the Bulldogs, throwing a complete game. The right-hander pitched seven innings, allowing eight hits and six runs (five earned), while striking out seven and walking six.

Leroy battled through traffic on the bases but made key pitches when needed to secure the victory.

Otter Tail Central finished with 12 hits in the contest, led by strong performances throughout the lineup including: Ryan Despard with three hits, Quenten Beske with four RBIs, Kale Misegades with multiple hits, RBI, Grady Shebeck with multiple hits and Kaden Schmieg with a two RBI single in big fourth inning.

Imdieke led Pillager with three RBIs, while Grimsley, Soberg, and Giza each collected two hits. The Huskies also drew six walks and turned one double play.

Otter Tail Central Head Coach Ryan Hendrickson praised his team’s response following the game one loss.

“I was really proud of how we responded after a tough loss in game one,” Hendrickson said. “We came out aggressive, had quality at-bats up and down the lineup, and played solid defense behind Casen. That’s the kind of complete game we’re capable of.”

Hendrickson also highlighted the team’s resilience.

“This group continues to compete. We talk about responding and staying mentally tough, and the guys did that tonight.”

Wednesday

The Otter Tail Central Bulldogs suffered a tough 15–14 loss to the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines on Wednesday night, as the game ended on a walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh inning.

With the loss, Otter Tail Central moves to 4–4 on the season after a back-and-forth contest that featured multiple lead changes and late-inning drama.

Otter Tail Central came out swinging early. Kale Misegades got the Bulldogs on the board in the first inning with a two-run double, and Ryan Despard followed with an RBI single in the second to extend the lead to 3–0.

Wadena-Deer Creek answered in the bottom of the second inning, erupting for six runs on six hits to take a 6–3 lead. The inning was highlighted by a two-run single from Krekalu.

The Bulldogs responded in the third inning, tying the game behind a sacrifice fly from Misegades and an RBI double from Beck Thorson.

Otter Tail Central regained the lead in the fourth inning when a wild pitch brought home a run to make it 7–6. The Wolverines later tied the game again in the sixth inning, capitalizing on a groundout and a Bulldog error to even the score at 7–7.

The Bulldogs appeared to take control in the top of the seventh inning, exploding for six runs on three hits to take a commanding 14–8 lead. The biggest swing came from Kaden Schmieg, who launched a two-run home run to left field.

Wadena-Deer Creek mounted a dramatic comeback in the bottom of the seventh, scoring seven runs to steal the win. The Wolverines took advantage of key opportunities and defensive miscues before Petrowski delivered the game-winning single on the final play.

Otter Tail Central totaled 11 hits in the game including:

Kale Misegades 2-3, four RBIs, double, Ryan Despard 3-5, Beck Thorson with three hits, RBI, Kaden Schmieg with a home run, two RBIs.

Quenten Beske started on the mound for Otter Tail Central, pitching five innings while allowing eight hits and six runs (all unearned), striking out six and walking one.

Beck Thorson took the loss in relief, allowing four runs (zero earned) over two-thirds of an inning.

Otter Tail Central Head Coach Ryan Hendrickson reflected on the tough loss following the game.

“That’s a hard one to swallow,” Hendrickson said. “We did a lot of really good things offensively and put ourselves in a position to win, but we didn’t finish the game. Against good teams, you have to close it out.”

Hendrickson emphasized the importance of learning from the loss.

“We’ll take this as a learning opportunity. We need to clean up some things defensively and execute better late in games. The effort was there — now it’s about finishing.”

Thursday

The Otter Tail Central Bulldogs bounced back in a big way Thursday night, defeating Browerville-Eagle Valley 19–11 in a high-scoring contest at Browerville High School. The Bulldogs’ offense erupted for 20 hits and 12 walks, overpowering the Tigers in one of their most complete offensive performances of the season.

With the win, Otter Tail Central improves to 5–4 on the year.

The Bulldogs’ lineup delivered from top to bottom, led by Kale Misegades and Ryan Despard, who both turned in standout performances.

Misegades went 4-5, collecting two doubles and two singles, while scoring three runs and stealing two bases. Despard matched him with a 4-5 performance, including two doubles and three RBIs, continuing to set the tone at the top of the lineup.

Quenten Beske added three hits, including a double, and drove in three runs, while Beck Thorson contributed in multiple ways, including scoring three runs and driving in two despite just one hit.

Additional contributions came from across the lineup: Grady Shebeck with two hits, including a key three-run single and Carter Knutson with two hits, RBI.

Bulldogs totaled 20 hits and consistently applied pressure throughout

Browerville-Eagle Valley struck first in the opening inning, but the Bulldogs quickly seized control in the third.

Otter Tail Central exploded for nine runs on six hits in the top of the third inning, flipping the game and taking a commanding 9–1 lead. The biggest hit came from Shebeck, who delivered a bases-loaded single that drove in three runs.

The Tigers responded with five runs in the fourth inning to cut the lead to 9–6, but the Bulldogs answered immediately.

In the fifth inning, Otter Tail Central put the game out of reach with another offensive surge, scoring five runs on six hits. Despard highlighted the inning with a two-run double as the Bulldogs extended their lead to 14–6.

Ayden Olson earned the win for the Bulldogs, providing an efficient start. Olson pitched two innings, allowing just one hit and one run while striking out two.

Otter Tail Central used multiple arms in relief, including Kaden Schmieg, Carter Knutson, and Ryan Despard, to finish out the game.

While the Bulldogs issued 10 walks and threw just 49% strikes, they limited damage effectively — only one of those walks came around to score.

Defensively, the Bulldogs committed three errors, but limited the impact to just one unearned run.

Otter Tail Central Head Coach Dakota Aeling praised his team’s offensive approach and ability to respond.

“That was a great offensive performance from our group,” Aeling said. “We had contributions up and down the lineup and did a nice job responding when they made a push. When we stay aggressive and put pressure on teams, we’re tough to handle.”

He also noted areas for improvement moving forward.

“We still have things to clean up on the mound and defensively, but it was good to see us bounce back and play with energy tonight,” said Aeling.

“That was a big response game for us. We talked about bringing energy and putting pressure on them every inning, and I thought we did that. When we’re aggressive at the plate and on the bases, we’re a tough team to stop,” said Kale Misegades.

Freshman Easton Misegades added “It was awesome being part of the game. Coming over from the JV game and getting to catch bullpens and be in the dugout with the varsity guys was really fun. I was just trying to help however I could.”
