Rousu, Soma compete at state wrestling tournament

Ava Rousu and Tayden Soma represented the Otter Tail Central Bulldogs at the state wrestling tournament in St. Paul over the weekend.
Rousu, who is the first female wrestler in program history to qualify for state, dropped her opening round match up at 155 lbs. against seventh ranked Mandi Lu of Blaine by a 16-0 tech fall.
In the consolation bracket, Rousu fell to Nora Astorino of Rochester Century by a pin at the 2:50 mark of her match to end her state tournament and season with a record of 21-13. Rousu is a freshman at Henning High School.
Soma, who is a senior at Henning High School, advanced to the quarterfinals of the 152 lbs. tournament when Dalton Wilson of LeSueur-Henderson medically forfeited the match. In the quarterfinals, Soma fell to eventual fifth place finisher Gavyn Hlucny of Crookston by a 17-1 tech fall to drop into the consolation.
In the consolation bracket, Soma fell to eventual third place finisher Gunner Hennessy of Border West by a 4-2 decision after Hennessy earned a take down late in the first period and an escape in the second period. Soma earned an escape in the third period and a stalling point as time expired in the third period to make the score 4-2.
Soma ended his seniors season with a record of 27-14.
