A group of local volunteers are compiling old photographs, like the ones pictured above and below, as well as stories about Henning’s history as they compile a book about the community. Organizers are hoping to finish the book soon, but are requesting people who may have old pictures and stories to contact the Landmark Center for possible inclusion into the publication.
Have you ever wished you could travel back in time to see how our town has changed over the decades? Who lived here in the 1870s? What kinds of jobs did people hold in 1920? Were there stores, roads, churches, or even a doctor back then? When did the railroad arrive, and how did the population grow? Who were these early pioneers—perhaps some of them are your ancestors. And what about the folks who came later, in the 1930s, 40s, 50’s, and 60s? What roles did they play? Who are the relative newcomers who came later? Maybe that includes you. How did you come to settle here? Whenever you came, your story matters, and a group of local volunteers want to hear it too.

Over the last few years, a small group of individuals have been working to find answers to these questions and publish a book about Henning. The opportunity to gather firsthand information is fading as the older generations pass on.
Do you have old photographs of Henning people or events? Even if you’re unsure whether they’re important, bring them to the Landmark so we can scan them and help individuals learn more.
Do you know any family stories handed down about Henning? Members of the book group have already discovered fascinating accounts—a wild horse chase through Main Street and the capture of someone on the FBI’s most wanted list, just to name a couple. A group of volunteers want all of the stories about Henning’s history possible—the humorous, the heartfelt and the uplifting.
