Lopez-Moen, Rousu take second at BHVPP tournament

Kayetana Lopez-Moen and Ava Rousu took second place, while Jazmine Saari finished in third at the annual Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale/Parkers Prairie girls wrestling tournament on Saturday.
Lopez-Moen advanced to the championship match after securing a pin at the 1:47 mark of the first period over Taylor Sangren of PLPR in the opening round of the 136 lbs. tournament. She would go on to secure a pin over Lyv Peterson of Spectrum at the 3:37 mark of the semi-finals, before falling to Emily Pulk of BGMR in the finals by a pin at the 2:45 mark of the match to finish in second place. She is currently 13-8 on the season.
Rousu improved to 13-9 on the season after securing a pair of pins in the opening two rounds of the tournament at the 3:27 and 1:51 marks of her matches to advance to the finals at 155 lbs. Unfortunately, Emma Peierson of Crookston was able to secure a third period pin over Rousu to finish her tournament in second place.
Saari took third place at 148 lbs. after defeating Galilea Cruz of Ortonville by a fall in the opening round of the 148 lbs. tournament and defeated Kahlan Payeur of Spectrum in just 59 seconds in her next match. She would go on to drop her next two matches by pins to finish in fourth place in the tournament and drop her record to 5-10 overall.
Also placing for the Bulldogs was Ava Molter in fifth place at 112 lbs., Morgan Storlie in sixth place at 124 lbs. and Jolene Fosse in fifth place at 130 lbs.
As a team the Bulldogs finished in fifth place with 82 points and trailed just Staples-Motley with 127 points, West Central with 117, Mille Lacs with 101.5 and Badger-Greenbush-Middle River with 86 points. There were 20 teams in the tournament.
