The Henning Hornets picked up their third win in the past four games with a commanding 75-29 win over the Ortonville Trojans on Friday afternoon. Henning took a 44-13 lead at halftime and forced 37 Trojan turnovers in the game.
In all, Henning finished with 34 deflections and 27 steals in the win that led to 37 points off of turnovers for the Hornets. Despite the tough defensive pressure, head coach Ryan Emter said the Hornets gave up too many open looks to Ortonville, especially in the first half of the game.
“We had a little rust coming out of Christmas break, but I was pleased with the progress we showed offensively. We weren’t great defensively in the first half and need to be better on that end. The ball didn’t always go in, but we gave up far too many open looks,” he said.

Alivia Emter scored 10 points to help lead the Hornets to a win over Ortonville on Friday night.
While the Hornets will look to shake off some of their rust as they get back into conference action this week, Emter said he was pleased with how well the Hornets played on the offensive end of the court by having eight girls reach the scoring column and seven of them scoring at least seven points.
“I was really happy with our crisp passing and unselfish play. Nearly having seven girls in double figures shows how well this group shares the ball,” he said.
In all, Henning had 18 assists on 28 made shots from the field and held a commanding 38-6 advantage in points in the paint.
The Hornets were led offensively by Addison Bode who scored 14 points to go along with seven rebounds. Stella Iliff scored 13 points, Alivia Emter scored 10 points and Lily Grieger scored 10 points to go along with a team-high eight rebounds in the win.

Abbi Godding just missed out reaching double figures with nine points, while Callie Thompson scored eight points, Bella Olson scored seven points,
Isabelle Godding scored four points and Brooklynn Geyer finished with six rebounds in the win.
The Hornets will return to action on Tuesday night when they host Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal at 6 p.m., before hosting Verndale on Thursday as part of parent’s night/senior night at 7 p.m.
“We have Parent/Senior Night coming up this Thursday against Verndale at 7 p.m.,” said Emter. “The girls have really appreciated the support this year and hope to see everyone during a nice stretch of home games ahead. Game times may vary, so please be sure to check the Henning School activities website for the most up-to-date start times.”
On Friday the girls will travel to Lake Park-Audubon for a make-up game against the Raiders. Friday’s game will get underway at 5 p.m.
