Henning third and fourth grade students in Mrs. Mills, Mrs. Wohlwend and Mr. Emter’s classes recently made fleece hats are part of a recycling project at the school.
Henning’s third and fourth graders recently spent an afternoon working alongside members of the 4-H Club to make fleece hats and learn how recycling plays a role in everyday life. The project was organized by 4-H’s Donna Geiser, who talked with students about how simple recycling habits can add up to meaningful change.
All of the fleece for the hats came from recycled materials collected at area recycling centers, giving students a chance to see how items can be repurposed into something useful. During the activity, students also worked through a set of math problems that showed how individual efforts add up when it comes to keeping materials out of landfills.
Students enjoyed creating their hats and appreciated the chance to see sustainability in action. A special thank-you goes out to Donna Geiser for coordinating the project, as well as master sewers Gail Guse and Mary Ann Wilke for helping the students stitch everything together.
The event blended creativity, teamwork, and environmental awareness, leaving students with not only a warm hat but a better understanding of how their choices can make a difference.
