If a downtown scene and post office in a recent TV commercial looked familiar it was for good reason. Otter Tail Power unveiled a new commercial featuring a number of local communities and people to the song of “This Little Light of Mine” across the area. As part of the commercial, several scenes from downtown Henning, including a man walking across the street near the Country Corner Cafe to the post office was featured in the commercial.
The Henning School District will go back to the drawing board in seeking a full-time superintendent next year. The school district, which hired Barry Olson on a part-time interim basis last spring, expressed a desire to hire a full-time superintendent to serve Henning School. During a special work session on Monday night, the Henning School Board met with Olson and discussed options for filling the district’s open superintendent position. Last year the school district hired Olson on an interim basis after Mike Rowe left Henning School to become the superintendent at Maple Lake.
Just three months after raising base and usage utility rates in the City of Henning, the Henning City Council once again approved rate increases in both the electric and sewer funds. During its regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday night, the city council approved a 10 percent increase in the sewer fund’s base rate and usage rate, as well as a 1.8-7.1 percent increase in the electric charges beginning in January 2021. The increases came after the city already approved $1 a month increase in the base rate for the water, sewer and electric funds in September, as well as 1 percent increase in the usage rate for each of the funds. At the time of the increase the council said the rate increase would be the first, but not the last, as it faces several upcoming utility and construction projects that will cost upwards of $8 million.
