The Henning Hornets outscored their opponents by a combined 157-60 margin last week in a pair of lopsided wins over Battle Lake and Bertha-Hewitt. After defeating Battle Lake by a score of 71-34 in non-conference action on Tuesday, the Hornets made the trek to Bertha-Hewitt on Thursday and defeated the Bears by a score of 86-26 to pick up their first conference win of the season.

This week the Hornets are scheduled to take on the Menahga Braves on Tuesday night, weather permitting, as well as Pillager on Friday night in Henning in a pair of conference match ups.

The Henning Hornets improved to 2-0 overall with a 71-34 win over Battle Lake in their home opener on Tuesday night. Henning jumped out to an early lead and led by a commanding 55-14 margin at halftime.
“Our guys took care of business and we are happy to get the win in front of a nice home crowd,” said head coach Randy Misegades.
While the offense was moving well for Henning in the first half, the second half was a bit more sloppy as the Hornets were unable to get into a rhythm down the stretch. As a team the Hornets shot 44 percent from the field, but just 7-25 from behind the 3-point line.

“Really sloppy game overall, especially in the second half. There wasn’t a lot of flow to the game at all,” said Misegades. “Battle Lake has some talented young guys and will only get better.”
Kale Misegades recorded a double-double as the senior scored 28 points to go along with 12 rebounds and seven assists. Zack Wiederich had an impressive night from the floor as the junior went 6-9 from the field to finish with 18 points, while Ryan Despard scored nine points, Todd Bjerke scored seven points, Dawson Bushman and Beck Thorson each scored four points and Teghan Wiirre finished the night with three points.

Henning made quick work of Bertha-Hewitt in its Park Region Conference opener on Thursday night with an 86-26 win over the Bears on the road. The Hornets led 49-9 at halftime and shot 53 percent from the field, including 13-29 from behind the 3-point line. The Bears were without their top player, Brady Rach, who was sidelined with an injury and that made things a bit more difficult for the Bertha-Hewitt team.

“We jumped out to quick lead and extended it going into the half. We were able to get some bench guys in the game early,” said head coach Randy Misegades.
Kale Misegades once again led the charge for the Hornets with 36 points on just 15-22 shooting, but fellow senior Ryan Despard knocked down four 3-pointers in the win to finish with 20 points and senior post player Andrew Suchy pulled down 11 rebounds to go along with six points off the bench in the win.
“Ryan Despard shot the ball very well in the first half and Andrew Suchy played his best game to date with 11 rebounds,” said Misegades.
Beck Thorson scored eight points in the win, while Todd Bjerke and Zack Wiederich each scored seven points and Easton Misegades rounded out the scoring with two points.
