A group of local residents gathered last Monday night to officially open the new playground at Amundson Park. While the final touches are still being put on the new playground, which will be accessible for people of all ages and abilities, much of the work to install the equipment has already taken place. ¶ The new playground equipment was purchased thanks to a large donation from the Lloyd Amundson family and was designed to allow for expansion in the future to add more equipment if funds and demand warrants further expansion.
¶ Amundson was on hand to officially cut the ribbon last week, as well as a number of community members, local youth and family members who received an up-close look at the new features of Amundson Park in town.
In addition to the playground equipment, which is located near the site of the former sand volleyball court, the park has a new sign, a cape buffalo and will be the location of new camping sites with water, electric and sewer hookups.
The cape buffalo was created by Ken Nyberg in 2013 for banks owned by Lloyd Amundson, but will now be permanently placed at Amundson Park.

Lloyd Amundson sits in front of an Amundson Park sign with the cape buffalo near the entrance of Amundson Park in Henning. Substantial landscaping was recently completed near the sign a buffalo.
