The Henning Hornets had a chance to pick up their second win of the season on Monday night, but ultimately the Ashby Arrows pulled away late in the second half to come away with a 55-46 win over the Hornets.

After trailing 27-22 at halftime, the Hornets were able to tie the game several times early in the second half before the Arrows were able to hit a couple of big shots down the stretch to keep the upset-minded Henning team at bay.

“It was a hard-fought game tonight. We came out of half and were able to tie it up several times, but just couldn’t quite get over the hump,” said head coach Ryan Emter. “Ashby knocked down a couple of key shots late that put the game away.”

All eight Hornets who got into the game last Monday night reached the scoring column with freshman Stella Iliff leading the way with 12 points to go along with a team-high three assists. Addison Bode and Alivia Emter each scored eight points, while Bella Olson scored seven points in the loss.

Callie Thompson scored six points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, while Abbi Godding and Monica Hansen each scored two points and Lily Grieger rounded out the scoring with one point.

Henning will look to rebound this week when they open their Park Region Conference schedule as they travel to Bertha-Hewitt on Tuesday, before traveling to Underwood on Thursday for a non-conference game against the Rockets. On Friday the Hornets will travel to defending conference champion Menahga for another PRC contest.
