A Henning man received minor injuries after the tractor he was driving was unable to stop and struck a train northwest of Henning on Wednesday afternoon.

According to a release from the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office and follow up email with the sheriff’s office, Wayne Pieper, age 67 of Henning, was approaching the CP railroad crossing and traveling eastbound on 290th St. when he was unable to stop after seeing a train traveling southbound. The train and tractor collided at the railroad crossing. The Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office received the report of the accident at 1:54 p.m.

The Henning Fire Department, Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Department and Henning EMS responded to the scene and Pieper was transported to Perham Health. The train crew was not injured in the accident. Pieper reportedly received minor injuries in the accident.

According to the sheriff’s office, the tractor was totaled and minor damage was reported to the train. Several neighbors also responded to the scene to assist with clearing the machinery off of the railroad tracks.
