State cross country meet set for Saturday in Twin Cities

Otter Tail Central senior Peter Newark will be making his third straight trip to the state cross country meet this weekend after he finished in third place individually at the Section 6A cross country meet at Minnewaska Golf Club. Newark finished with a time of 16:27, which was just 26 seconds behind Brady Rach of Bertha-Hewitt who took first place in the section.

Last year Newark took 25th place individually at state after finishing in 50th place as a sophomore. He will head into the state meet, which will be held at the University of Minnesota Les Bolstad Golf Course on Saturday as the 15th ranked competitor at state.

Also competing for the boys was Talyn Setterholm who finished in 19th place with a time of 17:33, Drew Robinson who finished in 29th place with a time of 18:07, Jude Hagemeister who finished in 38th place with a time of 18:42, Phoenix Allison who finished in 43rd place with a time of 18:49, Benjamin Sanmoogan who finished in 64th place with a time of 19:26 and Oren Brackin who finished in 67th place with a time of 19:34. 

As a team the Bulldogs finished in fourth place with 132 points, which is their highest finish as a team since 2017. Bertha-Hewitt finished in first place with a score of 51 points, while Wadena-Deer Creek finished in second place with 65 points to also qualify for state as a team. Sauk Centre took third place with 89 points, while West Central Area took fifth place with 142 points. There were 16 complete teams competing in the section meet. 

On the girls side, OTC finished in sixth place as a team with 169 points, which was the highest team result for the Bulldogs since 2015. New London-Spicer won the meet with 38 points, while Wadena-Deer Creek finished in second place with 103 points. Parkers Prairie took third place with 132 points, while Staples-Motley took third with 146 points and Minnewaska Area was fifth with 154 points. There were a total of 14 complete teams competing in the section meet. 

The girls team was led by Claire Mansker who finished in 18th place with a time of 20:36. Brielle Malone took 34th place with a time of 21:40, Kailie Robinson took 38th place with a time of 22:03, Tegan Brandon took 42nd place with a time of 22:16, Quinn Hagemeister took 62nd place with a time of 23:31, Delia Tebrugge took 71st place with a time of 24:08 and Mae Hagemeister took 82nd place with a time of 25:09.
