Clayton Johnson of Albert Lea wrapped up the Landmark Center 2020 Workshop Series with two days of wood carving last week. The workshop was the eighth one the Landmark Center hosted as part of the summer workshop series.

Scott Gunderson doesn’t view his new business venture at Folden Hills Design as a job—it’s more of a fun hobby turned side business.  After purchasing a CNC machine just over a year ago, the rural Vining resident has turned his hobby into a growing business that creates custom signs and one-of-a-kind creations for residents and businesses throughout the area.

If one trunk or treat is fun, two trunk or treats is even better. Ottertail area children will have two opportunities to have a fun and safe way to receive candy during a pair of trunk or treats on Saturday. The Ottertail Lions Club and Thumper Pond Resort will be hosting a trunk or treat at the Thumper Pond parking lot from 3-5 p.m. and again from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Ottertail Community Center parking lot on Saturday.

Twelve frozen turkeys will be given away in Henning to local veterans, as well as the widows/widowers of veterans on Nov. 11. The 12 turkeys were provided by Jennie O’ Turkey Store and the Henning American Legion Post 18.

Nice to meet you… Marcus Baillargeon conversed with two ponies Monday evening during a Henning Early Childhood and Family Education (ECFE) autumn trip to a pumpkin patch and activity spot for kids in Staples.

“Whether it’s a private or public system, it’s going to have to be mandatory. That’s the only way it makes sense.” These were the words out of the mouth of Paul Garnaas, engineer from Otter Tail Energy Services, a division of Otter Tail Power. Garnaas was referring to the future water project planned for Ottertail. He attended the Ottertail Council meeting with Verle Blaha, developer of Thumper Pond to discuss OTES’ interest in bringing water and sewer to Thumper Pond and possible the city as well.

You’re getting too hot Coach… the Otter Tail Central Bulldog football team is on fire, still undefeated heading into the second round of subsections this Saturday night in Henning. After last week’s final regular season game, members of the team celebrated another victory by icing down Coach Don Seipkes.

Three area fires kept members of the Henning Fire Department busy during the weekend as they were called to two grass fires. One was at the Girard Cemetery and the other was between Woodland Beach and Sanda’s Beach and a rubbish fire which had spread to Derald Cordes farm, where a machine shed had slight damage.

Andrew Clovning suffered a mishap Saturday while picking corn, an accident which meant the loss of his thumb. He was using a mechanical corn picker. When the machine did not appear to be working good, he stopped the tractor and got off the clean out the corn stalks and husks. He then got on the tractor, started the tractor again, but still the picker did not work, so leaving it running he went around to check once more and this time the glove on his hand caught in the back roller and drew his hand in. Charles Oppegard ran to his assistance, after hearing his cry for help. He had to use a crowbar to pry Andrew’s hand from between the roller.

Friday night was big night at the high school. With games, lunch, bingo, boxing, many people attended and enjoyed the carnival which was presented by the high school. A short program was given at 8 p.m. by the high school band under the direction of Mr. Vivian. Mr. Vejtasa presented the Queen, Doris Ellenson, the King Delbert Brockopp, and their attendants at this time.
