Henning travels to Bertha-Hewitt on Thursday

Addison Bode finished with eight kills and 13 digs during last week’s win over Verndale.

The Henning Hornet volleyball team improved their overall record to 6-1 and their Park Region Conference record to 2-0 with their win over the Verndale Pirates on Thursday. The Hornets defeated the Pirates 3-0, game scores were 25-16, 25-19 and 25-13.

Myiesha Antoni and Alivia Emter block a shot during last week’s game against the Pirates. Emter finished with 11 kills and 14 digs, while Antoni finished with six kills in the win.

Head coach Kristy Finck said the Hornets played consistent from start to finish; as a team they had 40 kills, hitting at a season high .224. They served 97 percent with 10 aces and serve received 88 percent to the target. Henning was also able to get all of their seniors some playing time, which is hard to do in volleyball because of the way a team subs and also the number of subs a team can have per set. Macie Oseien did a great job when she went in, she had two kills and her last kill was the game winning kill.

Leading the team was Alivia Emter with 11 kills, 3 ace serves, 14 digs and 1 block. Addison Bode had 8 kills and 13 dig. Myiesha Antoni and Brynn Reinbold each had 6 kills and 2 blocks. Cambrie Johnson led the team with 33 set assists and had 2 ace serves. Hailey Fiskum had 13 digs and 2 ace serves.

Brynn Reinbold attempts to block a shot during last week’s game in Verndale. Reinbold finished with six kills and two blocks in the 3-0 win over Verndale.

The Hornets will be on the road again this week as the high school gym is still not finished. On Tuesday, they will travel to Battle Lake for an afternoon game at 1 p.m. and Thursday they will travel to Bertha-Hewitt. Finck said the Hornets are hoping to have their home opener on Monday, Sept. 22, provided the gym floor will be completed in time.
