0Henning to travel to Browerville on Saturday

The Henning Hornets opened their season with an away Park Region Conference game against the Menagha Braves. The Hornets came home with a 3-0 victory over the Braves.
“I was a little nervous going into the game as we have not practiced on a regular court during preseason due to the main gym getting a new floor,” said head coach Kristy Finck. “We have been practicing in our small gym and the courts are very tight to the wall, so depth perception of if the ball is in or out is very difficult. We have also had to be creative with our practicing because 31 girls, C, B and Varsity is very crowded. I think it took a little adjusting to the court for all levels on Tuesday night’s game.”

On the night the C-squad won 2-0, the JV lost 0-2 and the varsity won 3-0 (25-10, 25-15 and 25-20).
The first game of the varsity match was pretty onesided. The Braves struggled to pass and serve the ball in the court. By midway through the second set the Braves started picking up hits and sending balls back to Henning.
In the third set Henning had more errors than Finck said she would have liked, but the Hornets were able to finish the set and head home with a 3-0 sweep on the night.

Passing was good for the Hornets as they serve-received above 90 percent, Finck said when Henning does this they can get our offense going, and this is what they need to have success this year. As a team the Hornets served 93 percent with eight ace serves. The Hornets had a .122 hitting efficiency, and had 5 ace blocks on the night.
Leading the way for the Hornets was senior Cambrie Johnson, she had 23 set assists, 3 kills and 3 ace serves. Senior Myiesha Antoni led the team in kills with 8 and had 2 solo blocks. Senior Emmalyn Bergstrom had 5 kills and 2 ace serves. Sophomore Addison Bode had 6 kills and 15 digs. Alivia Emter had 4 kills, 2 ace serves and 8 digs. Brynn Reinbold had 3 kills and 3 ace blocks. Eighth grader Hailey Fiskum served 9/9 and had 13 digs. Bella Olson and Lillian Moench also served 100 percent on the night and did well passing the ball to the target.
Due to the gym floor construction, the Hornets do not have a home game until Sept. 16. Henning’s next game is on Tuesday, Sept. 2 in Breckenridge, and then on Saturday, Sept. 6 they travel to Long Prairie for the Browerville Tournament.
