Just one year after a new skate park was constructed, a group of Henning residents continue to re-imagine the open space at the Henning Festival Grounds. This time a group of residents are hoping to bring a pair of pickleball courts and a basketball court to the festival grounds as a way to bring families, friends and local residents together at one location.

Dubbed the Courtside Crew, the group is aiming to raise $50,000 to cover the construction and equipment costs for the new courts. The volunteers said once the project is completed it will provide a safe, fun and accessible space to encourage physical activity, health and community spirit in the town. 

“This is more than just a place to play,” said one local organizer. “It’s an investment in Henning’s future—where kids and grown ups alike can be active and connected, and where families and neighbors can come together to enjoy outdoor recreation.”

Pickleball courts have been constructed in both Deer Creek and Ottertail over the years and remain a popular place for local residents to gather of all ages.

In order to make the project become a reality, volunteers are seeking donations from businesses and local residents. All donation amounts are welcomed and those who donate will be recognized for their contributions.

A platinum sponsor is $5,000 and above; gold sponsor is $1,500-$4,999; a silver sponsor is $1,000-1,499; a bronze sponsor is $500-$999 and a copper sponsor is $100-499. 

Donors at every sponsorship level will be acknowledged with name or business recognition near the courts, as a lasting thank-you to those who helped make it possible.

To donate, checks can be made out to the City of Henning with the note of Courtside Crew on the memo line. Checks can be dropped off at city hall or mailed to PO Box 55, Henning, MN 56551.
